HIRST

RESIDENCE. 2018.

Client: Damien Hirst (prospective)

Location: Somerset

Type: studio project

A modern brick house for the art collector Damien Hirst. Tailored to his lifestyle and taste, the residence uses his artwork as a precedent in form and concept.

The idea of the ‘glass box’ resembles Damien Hirst’s controversial collection of work which he uses formadelhyde to preserve bodies of animals, which are placed in steel framed glass boxes. This is mimicked in the brick dwelling by placing emphasis on verticality in form.

It would be as if his house were an enlarged version of this artwork: Damien Hirst himself and his everyday life would be the ‘living’ subject inside the glass container instead of these well- preserved, almost eerie, animals.
